As the song goes, the church is not a building. The church is not a steeple. The church is the PEOPLE. Here at the First United Methodist Church of Bridgeville, we encourage our members to get involved to fully experience the Holy Spirit at work and be inspired. You can get involved as much or as little as you would like. Get involved, and start by first learning about our church committees below to see where you can use your God-given talents.
Finance Committee: Our Finance Committee is compiled of individuals who have shown to be equipped with one or more of the following Spiritual gifts: giving, faith, wisdom, administration, discernment, helping, leadership, exhortation (encouragement), and teaching. Through the responsible use of these gifts, the committee seeks to be good stewards with the financial giving and spending of our church. They not only set the budget for the coming year but they also seek to help raise the funds needed to meet the mission and vision of the church. Together, the Finance Committee works with the Pastor to encourage tithing and giving as an act of faith and spiritual discipline.
Trustees: Our Trustees Committee is compiled of individuals who possess one or more of the following spiritual gifts: servanthood, helping, discernment, leadership, administration, and giving. Through the responsible use of these spiritual gifts, the Trustees work together to be faithful Christian stewards of the property God has entrusted to the congregation. The Trustee committee is responsible for implementing our church's Safe Sanctuary policy. They also make sure the building is well supervised and maintained in order to carry out the mission and vision of our church.
Envisioning Committee: The Envisioning Committee is compiled of individuals who have shown a desire to nurture the members of the congregation and reach out to the community around us. A church is not just made up of four walls and a roof, but it extends into all the world. It is the Envisioning Committee that seeks to encourage other to be effective witnesses for Jesus Christ. At the same time, they offer up ways to meet the needs of the community around us.
Pastor/Staff-Parish Relations Committee: The Pastor/Staff-Parish Relations Committee also known as the PSPRC, is compiled of individuals who possess the following gifts: exhortation (encouragement), wisdom, discernment, administration, shepherding, helping, servanthood, and leadership. Through the responsible use of these gifts, the committee seeks to nurture and strengthen the Pastor and Staff of the church to help fulfill the mission of the church. The PSPRC speaks on behalf of the congregation with the Pastor and Staff to assess leadership styles and evaluate its effectiveness. This is the only committee that is bound by confidentiality.
Administrative Council: Administrative council is comprised of each of the heads of the other committees. There is also a certain number of members of the congregation that serve on this committee that are not involved in other committees. Together, the Administrative Council seeks to support and unite each committee that has been organized in the local church. They help to ensure that the committees are working toward the mission and vision that has been set forth by the congregation. The United Methodist Church’s overall mission statement is to, “Make Disciples for the Transformation of the World.” It is the administrative council that responsibly ensures our church, our mission and our vision are indeed all in line with making disciples.
